The Ministry of Health has announced that it will set up at Bucharest the National Register of the Stem Cells Donors. In this way, the patients with hematological problems who have no compatible relatives for the stem cells transplant to be possible will have more chances to find donors.

This register will be a public institution, in the suborder of the Ministry of Health. The activity will be possible at a territorial level, throughout three stem cells transplant centers and eight centers of recruitment and primary testing. Recruitment centers will be found in the Capital city, Cluj, Constanta, Craiova, Galati, Iasi, Targu Mures and Timisoara. The Transplant Centers will be found in Bucharest, Timisoara, and Targu Mures. "In Romania, the chances to find a compatible donor for the patients diagnosed with hematological malignant diseases, with severe evolution, who can not make auto transplant and who have no related donor, are rather low. The percentage of these represents approximately 7-10 % from the total of the patients who need this procedure. In order to give them a chance to healing, it is required the establishment of an institution that will administrate a data base with the persons who agreed to donate stem cells for the treatment of some patients who suffer from malignant haemopathies. In this way, the chances that an unrelated compatible donor to be found at a national level are bigger than in the case in which we appeal to search these donors in the international registers.", is specified in the normative act project, subject of the public debating on the Ministry of Health's site.
