faleza_consolidare.jpgThe last few years the phenomenon of collapse of the cliff was felt in several resorts on the Romanian Black Sea coast.

But, by far, the most affected by this phenomenon is Eforie Resort. Year by year, pieces of cliff collapse, leaving a sad image, damage to retailers and hoteliers and, the worst, creates a great discomfort to tourists who chose to spend their holidays at the seaside. Last weekend, another piece of the Eforie Sud cliff in Splendid Beach area collapsed. Basically, in that place the pavement no longer exists and the road is about to crash too. The situation is so critical that the authorities decided to close that part of the road. Specialists say that the collapse phenomenon occurs due to seepage of sewage of the city.

This is confirmed by water samples taken by representatives of the Romanian Waters, results showing that water is coming from city sewage. The critical situation of the beach in Eforie Sud made the territorial chief inspector from the South East Inspectorate in Construction to go to that spot, with other competent authorities, to speed up the works in order to consolidate the shore until it's too late. For the beginning, Gigi Chiru, the head of South East Inspectorate in Construction, asked the constructor to double the number of workers and to start working in three shifts.

"I will make the necessary arrangements with the work manager and the Ministry of Tourism and Regional Development (MTRD) so the tourists could enjoy Eforie Sud Resort in the shortest possible time. If necessary, I will ask the ministry to support us financially to complete the work before the middle of the season, when many tourists are expected. This work should be completed as swiftly and, if possible, without too bothering to much the tourists who started to come to the resort. We must not forget that Eforie Sud is disadvantaged, and extending works for a longer period of time will affect the whole season. This will have negative consequences for all those engaged in commercial or tourism activities in the resort. Besides there are also the weather factors: a stronger storm is definitely going to lead to another shore collapse, which will just be too much", concluded Gigi Chiru.
